One of the hardest parts of visiting teaching is collecting reports. Your cooperation is needed for us to be sure that all records are accurate.
This is a reminder that as the final step in completing your visiting teaching monthly, it's important that you report your visiting teaching to your supervisor. The type of contact and welfare of each sister needs to be reported to her. If there are any confidential concerns then those should be reported directly to the RS President.
All reports need to be called in or emailed to your supervisor by the first of every month so they can be sent in in a timely manner.

Falling Into Friendship Through Visiting Teaching
Sister Silvia Allred of our General Relief Society Presidency has said,
" One of the ways Relief Society sisters can feed His sheep is through visiting teaching. “The purposes of visiting teaching are to build caring relationships with each sister and to offer support, comfort, and friendship.” To accomplish those purposes, visiting teachers should: 1. Through our regular monthly visits to our sisters, we can create bonds of love, friendship, and trust."
An article about friendship found in the Sept. 2009 Ensign:
Most of the time, I felt Cami was merely tolerating our visits. Would we ever be friends?
The two and a half years that Cami (name has been changed) was on my visiting teaching route were a challenge. She didn’t return our phone calls. Sometimes she stood us up when we were able to make an appointment, or she often called at the last minute to cancel. She and her husband both came from solid Latter-day Saint families, but they had not been active in the Church for several years.
When I got discouraged about her lack of interest in having visiting teachers, I would reflect on how I would feel if I had a daughter or sister who had placed herself outside the warm embrace of the gospel. I would want her visiting teachers to be loving and persistent. Cami even told me once that her mother had prayed she would have good visiting teachers. That encouraged me, even if Cami thought she didn’t need us.

Planting and Nourishing Seeds of Testimony through VTing
“A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by
the way side; and it was trodden down. … “And some fell upon a rock: and … it withered away. … “And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an
hundredfold. …”
**As we visit teach we have the opportunity to sow seeds of testimony. Every month we have the opportunity to nourish those seeds.
**Are you helping to nourish your sisters need for spirituality?
How many sisters will have seeds of testimony
planted and nourished in the month of September?
There is an apple tree on the RS bulletin board in the hallway. Apples will be added as sisters are visit taught. The apples on the tree will tell how many sisters were cared for in September.
(Please report to your supervisors as soon as your VTing is complete!)
A motivator to do our visiting teaching: Obedience
“The seed of obedience is the first law of the gospel and was exemplified by the Savior, who was obedient in all things.”

Other ideas for your visiting teaching sisters:
1. The above tag would be so cute attached to a small bag with items that resemble each of the things needed for us to nourish ourselves spiritually (a kit?):
Sacrament: A picture of the Savior
Reading the Scriptures: a scripture marking pencil or reading chart
Daily Prayer: a package of lifesavers
Temple Work: a white handkerchief or picture of a temple
2. This same tag would also be cute with a package of batteries emphasizing the need for us to continue to recharge our spiritual batteries .
Do you have any ideas of creative ways to share the visiting teaching message with your sisters? If so, please send them to Kim Judd at sixnephites@msn.com and we will post them!

A Renewed Commitment to Visiting Teaching!
In this month of September, every visiting teacher is encouraged to recommit herself to visiting teaching! :) It's so motivating to have a "fresh start" setting new goals. With the summer over and school just beginning, it is the perfect time to rededicate ourselves to magnifying our responsibility to "watch over one another". Will you accept this challenge?
Here is one idea that you can use to begin your quest to become a better visiting teacher (1998 Ensign):
Remember that flexibility, creativity, and commitment help us fulfill our callings as visiting teachers.
Establishing a set appointment
Visiting Teaching can be accomplished by setting a standing appointment or by asking for two or three possibilities of convenient times (noting the days that are not available) both for you and for those you visit. Flexibility and compromise might be necessary, but the security of having an established appointment removes a surprising amount of pressure regarding visiting teaching.
Here is an experience of a sister who uses this method:
Kathleen Berger, a visiting teacher in the Palm Bay First Ward, Cocoa Florida Stake, “We have several sisters we visit, and they all know we always come on the first Tuesday morning of every month,” she says. “We all live far apart and sometimes feel cut off, so these visits are important, and the sisters enjoy them. These Tuesday morning visits are something they can count on.”
That's one idea! If you have any other ideas that can help with visiting teaching efforts, please email them to Kim Judd at sixnephites@msn.com. We would love to post them!
